Butterfly Challenge #150

The butterflies have had a short break over the Christmas time but they are back ready to challenge us again - read all about it HERE.  This time the letter of the alphabet is 'G'; the colours are Geranium (bright pink), Granny Smith (Green) and Gold.  The theme is gingham; style of card is a 'gap' card and of course at least one butterfly.  The gap card was a new one on me but luckily there is an excellent tutorial provided showing at least two ways of achieving this - the idea is to bridge a gap on the front of the card with something or other, either a large die cut word or maybe a shape of some sort.  For once I've managed to include all the elements - the gingham is on the inside of the card and you can just see it peeping through the 'Happy' word.  There is a die cut shape on the inside layer on which to write a message.  Why not take some butterflies out of hibernation and have a go - there are prizes 😉😉

PS - you will need to look closely to read the large word which shows up much more in real life - I will maybe take a photo of the open card when the light is better

More Embossing

Making a card recently for the Squash It challenge made me realise that although I have quite a lot of embossing folders they are somewhat under-used which is a shame because I think a bit of dry embossing on some of the layers of a card adds a certain something.   I started this card by embossing a large piece of cream card followed by cutting a frame using kraft card.  The sentiment was stamped onto a scrap of cream card and die cut into a fancy shape, finally some flower heads were die cut from the left over piece of kraft and arranged around the sentiment.

Frame - cut using dies from Tonic and Creative Expressions
Embossing - Presscut Quilted blocks folder
Flowers - Additions dies, poppy heads from Crafts Too
Sentiment - my favourite freebie sentiment stamp set, shape is a die from Creative Expressions

Squash It Challenge #4

If you've not come across the Let's Squash It challenge before the aim is to encourage the use of embossing folders which must be named ones.  This time we are asked to combine embossing with anything from the animal kingdom and I've chosen a woodgrain embossing folder as the main focus of the card with a stamped image of a chick. This card is more CAS than my usual style but I did want to show a good proportion of the lovely wood grain which was embossed on cream card and sponged with ink to bring out the texture. Why not dig out some of your embossing folders and have a go at this fun challenge??  There is a prize to be won.😉

Snippets Challenge # 394

There has been a slight change in the way the Pixie Snippet Challenge works so do pop over to read all about it and to see the super card made by Jane as inspiration for the prize which she has kindly donated.

I recently made a perpetual calendar using a die set and this involved cutting into several sheets of purple card and printed papers to gather all the components together, thus leaving me with lots of snippets, some of which have been used on this first challenge card of 2021 in the Playground. There was a large snippet of card and also one of the paper so I was able to use them for the base squares and then it was a case of deciding what I could do with the selection of smaller pieces.  The feather was die cut and the two really tiny snippets for the 'eye' came from my oddments box of blues. Layers and banners were cut and assembled; sentiment stamped onto the feather panel using the Misti and that was job done although I do still have more of the purple and mauve snippets to use in other projects.

Square dies - Tonic
Feather - die from Sizzix
Sentiment - magazine freebie
Printed Paper - printed onto pearl paper using Artylicious Essence of Nature CD
Banners - dies from Creative Expressions
