Spellbinders Gold

Well I was tempted to get just one set of the new Spellbinders Gold dies and went for the one which matches up with the original Labels Four.  Getting a perfect result was a bit of an adventure to say the least but I think I got there in the end.  These dies are quite intricate and they cut, emboss and deboss which seems to be what was causing me some problems.  I found I was having to put them through twice in different orientations to get the cut but my first attemps resulted in some of the  sections being only partially cut.  When I looked closely at the packaging I realised that these partially cut areas were in fact deboss sections (I think) and ought not to have cut at all.  I'm not sure I will invest in any more of these intricate dies - they seem to take ages to produce by the time the little cut areas have been pushed out and the little bits of silicone paper removed from the deboss areas.  I use silicone baking parchment when cutting some of the more intricate dies as I find it helps to release the card from the die once cut.

Anyway I eventually made a card with a couple of them using backing paper from Papermania, a stamp from Stampin' Up and two of the intricate die cuts.

  1. Great colour combo Val complimented by the bp. Lovely dies but they sound a bit complicated! So tempting with all these new products:)

  2. A beautiful card Val. I love the new die you've brought. I treated myself to the CHA released Dies back in January and had problems with the intricate parts, but I invested in some of the waxed paper and it makes it so much easier, and it just peels away from your finished die cut. it's well worth the investment.

  4. beautiful card Val, those dies do look very intricate. I`m not sure my cuttlebug cuts as well as it did when it was new, often have to go round with a poky tool to push the tiny bits out. x Lavinia

Thanks for the info about the dies too - they certainly look very pretty.

  6. lovely card Val - great colour combination too! I tried some of the newer dies last Sunday, as a friend has a few , including the 2 I really fancied - have to say I am SO glad I didn't buy them, yes they are lovely, but trying to get them to cut properly drove me mad, even with silicone paper, and so often the delicate stems just broke even before I tried to get them out of the die......

  7. You've just confirmed other things I've heard about these dies Val. They look lovely, as is your card, but if they complicate our lives it's just not worth it. I'd also heard they are very thin and bend easily? The blue in the bp is gorgeous.
