Vermilion

I've been having a fairly serious tidy up and sort out of my craft room and shock, horror, have actually ditched a few things which I've not used in ages (it was hard though!!) AnywayI found a scrap of 'Pixied' watercolour paper just large enough to cut a butterfly so decided rather than throw it out I'd make another card for the Butterfly challenge where the theme is KEY and/or VERMILION.  This is where I have to confess that it was my intention to cut the plain red  for the top layer of the butterfly and the bottom layer would be the scrap of paper coloured with Pixie Powders.  In a moment of inattention I managed to cut them the opposite way round - nearly gave up the whole idea - but then I decided I quite liked it this way and added three red gems for the body.  The scrap of blue spotted paper was in one of my scrap boxes and luckily I found a larger piece with pretty well the same colours.  The sentiment was stamped onto a white square, layered with red and blue; finally three tiny banners were punched from the last of the red card to add a bit of interest to the layout.  The edges of the papers were sponged with red Distress ink.  I'm off next to see what other people have made of the key/vermilion idea - well worth a look now and again to catch up during the challenge.

Scalloped Squares - dies from The Works (good value)
Butterfly - Tim Holtz detailed butterfly dies
Tiny banners - punch from Stampin' Up.
Sentiment - stamped using freebie stamp.

  1. Super card, Val. I love the papers and the butterfly looks beautiful this way round. I'm impressed that you've managed to 'ditch' a few things in your craft room. I've got as far as tidying my craft table this week, so there is actually room to work on it! I don't think I've managed to get rid of much, just moved things around and put things back where they belong. LOL! Just the rest of my craft room to sort out now...... xx

  9. Well done with the clean and purge, Val! It's hard work! I'm glad you didn't give up on this card because it turned out beautifully! I love how all your layers and patterns match and I really like the "inside out" butterfly design!! Hugs, Darnell

  10. A very pretty card and the butterfly looks lovely. Btw, I read your comment on my blog and the TH stamp/stencil set is called Blossom, Sketchy flowers. I picked mine up from that very famous auction site for a little less than £10... maybe a treat to replace some ditched stash ;) x

  11. I always love your eye for colour and the way you use up so many of your scraps Val. I have been doing a little better of late but not as good as you. This is such a pretty colour combo.
